Denver Group Trip Leader School |

More responsible, capable leaders are needed to guide the hundreds of CMC trips
into our beloved mountains. Completion of the Trip Leader School is the first
step in becoming a Denver Group trip leader.
The school is offered each spring and each autumn; dates are published in the
Mile High Mountaineer and through the Upcoming Schools link on the CMC home
page. The spring class is generally an all-day Saturday class and the autumn
class is generally two consecutive Thursday evenings. Interested members should
register on-line through the CMC website under Programs, Education or through
the CMC Office. It is open to all members, regardless of hiker or skier classification.
Requirements are:
CMC membership current paid status
Three CMC trips completed. At least two must be hiking, backcountry ski,
or snowshoe trips.
There is a $10 fee for this school for Denver Group members ($20 for members of other Groups.)
The school includes classroom lectures on group dynamics and leadership styles,
leader responsibilities, liability issues, medical concerns, environmental concerns,
and other topics to assist the novice leader to learn to plan a trip, screen
potential trip participants, organize the group, and carry out a safe trip.
Case studies are integral to the class. For more information, contact the school
director or the chair of the Denver Group Safety and Leadership Committee.
Please note that the Technical Climbing Section has its own Trip Leader School
and application.
